On 5th April 1945 Allies army, lined up along the Gotic Line from October 1944, began the offensive phase against the position kept by the Axisforces. In consequence at the front breaking in proximity of Bologna, Axis troops received the order to fold up towards the Pianura Padana, behind the Po River; Intra battalion and Artillery Group Bergamo, lined up in the Serchio Valley’ sector, were the last units that left the fighing line after hard combat episodes. Arrived near Fornovo Taro (LU) at 29th april 1945, after the surrender order of the Marshall Graziani (Chieff of Italian Army), the last fighting against the Brasilians represent the desperate tentative to conduct the movement to North of Italy. Italian and German units surrended receiving the Honour of the Weapons. Concerning the units lined up on Front of Liguria, they fought moving toward the city of Genova where received the surrender proposal of the Partisan commander. General Meinhold (German) accepted the surrender condition. On 27th of April a Monterosa column moving to Passo della Scoffera (Ligurian hinterland) surrended at the Brasillians receiving the Honour of the Weapons. Units lined up to the Alps doesn’t received , or received just in time, the surrender order; distance and mountains morphology has been factors that contributed to the critical situation: so, the different history of the battalions on the Alps. Few units negotiate the surrender with the partisans; the 129 killed after the 25th of april are the consequence; few other units withdrawal to Torino and Ivrea (Piedmont) waiting the Allies for the surrender procedures. 10th Battery of Mountain Artillery Group, lined up to La Thuille (Val d’Aosta) in defence of the Passo del Piccolo San Bernardo (mountain pass), repelled a French offensive operation remaining in defensive attitude untill 7th of May 1945. Monterosa Division, Folgore Division and Littorio Division received the Honour of the Weapons by the Allies. |
