The trainers assigned to the Monte Rosa Division were selected among the German veterans employed in the operative theatres: soldiers rich in experience of war. They were Officers and NCOs of the 1st Gebirsjager Division who fought in Norway, Greece, Balcans and Russia. The aim of the instructors was to create a new corp of Italian trainers: the senior executives of the future Army.

The German period represent for the Monte Rosa Division the most intense training moment that the Italian Armed Forces have ever had (before and after September 8th 1943): the same training for Officier, NCO’s, veterans and young troops. Normally, the training period for the German divisions was planned in one year; Monte Rosa Division training period was reduced to five intensive months of best German military traditions.

The activities in German camps of Münsingen and Heuberg began in december 1943 and ended in July 1944 when the Division was employed in Italian front.

Weapons’ quality: Monte Rosa Division was weaponed and equipped with german equippemets; the same used by the Whermacht Divisions . The carabine Mauser 98K (cal. 7,92 x 57) replaced the Italian rifle Manlincher Carcano ’91 (cal. 6,5) used by the Italian Royal Army. At Team level they were provided with telescope and a grenades launcher. A very smart application was the same calibre used by the rifle and the Machine Gewer mod. 42: the most light and efficient team weapon used during the WWII (1200 shots per minute): about 480 pieces utilised by Monterosa Division.
